Interactive seminar on economic policy making skills

Организатор: The British Embassy in Minsk

The British Embassy in Minsk invites students to an interactive seminar on economic policy making skills, delivered by Ian Proud, Economic Counsellor at the British Embassy in Moscow

Prior to taking up his position in Moscow, Ian was Head of Delivery for the UK Presidency of the G8 in 2013, working in the UK Cabinet Office.  He was actively involved in the detailed preparations for the G8 Summit which took place in Lough Erne, Northern Ireland.  From 2010 to 2012, Ian was Head of Peace Building Policy at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.  During this time, among other things, he organised the London Conference on Libya in March 2011 and wrote and launched the Foreign Secretary’s Initiative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) in May 2012.

Ian was Head of Strategic Communications at the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, from February to June 2010. From 2003-2007 Ian was Head of Political and Economic Section at the British Embassy in Bangkok, with responsibility also for UK relations with Laos.

The seminar will be held in English without translation and all participants will need to have a good command of English to make the most of the event.  The seminar will last approximately 4 hours with a working lunch break.  Certificates, signed by HM Ambassador to Belarus will be presented to participants at the end of the event.

The seminar will give participants –working in teams – the opportunity to think through policy options to develop and grow the economy of Belarus.  Each team will then present its findings at the end of the seminar.  Some knowledge of economics would be helpful, although participants from other social sciences backgrounds would also be welcome.  The best preparation for this event would be for participants to read the international media on topics related to global economic developments and current affairs.
